Dear WTR Network family and friends,
As the Work That Reconnects Network continues to apply anti-oppression and decolonization frameworks to the Work That Reconnects, the Weaver’s team reflects on this season of gratitude and the opportunity to deepen our awareness and connection to the local Indigenous communities of the land we live with and Indigenous communities world wide.
Those of us of settler/colonizer heritage can begin by attuning our curiosity to those beings and peoples who previously or currently inhabit the land we call home. We can familiarize ourselves with the flora and fauna of our bio-region by tuning our senses to those beings. To learn more about the Indigenous communities in your part of the world visit the native land website, and do your research to find out how you can support them.
For those who reside in what is colonially called the United States, this month is National Native American Indian Heritage Month. We invite those who are interested to learn more about TruthsGiving. TruthsGiving is a movement and ideology committed to educating settlers about Indigenous perspectives on the Thanksgiving holiday in the US, and rejecting colonial holidays that perpetuate the oppression of Indigenous peoples.
According to the International Labour Organization, there are 476.6 million Indigenous people, belonging to 5,000 different groups, in 90 countries, speaking 4,000 languages. You can learn more about Indigenous cultures worldwide through resources such as CulturalSurvival, or by listening to podcasts that interview Indigenous people worldwide, such as Indigenous Wisdom For The Earth.
Yours in the Great Turning 🌀
