Active Hope for Changing Times

with Margo van Greta and Jacqueline Buckingham

2nd, 9th, 16th & 23rd June 2021

Do you experience change and uncertainty in your life? Do you wish you had more inner strength and resilience to make inspired and constructive choices? Are you concerned about the state of the planet, the environmental crisis, and wish you could make a positive contribution, large or small?

Every change or crisis can be seen as a wake up call, an opportunity to make a difference.  It is not always easy to make changes in our personal lives, or in the world.  These times of uncertainty on so many levels gives us the opportunity to reflect, to pause, to reconsider our options. Yet how do we do that?

Through a four-week journey around the Spiral of the Work that Reconnects, we are able to face and move beyond the current realities that can be difficult to take in and painful to live with, and to respond with active hope.

This four half-day online workshop aims to build resilience and equip us with tools to create the kind of future we’d like to see.  Active Hope is a practice, like Tai Chi or gardening, something that we do rather than have.  Developed by Joanna Macy and Chris Johnstone, Active Hope invites you to actively participate in a story that is moving towards the future we hope for.

“Active Hope helps people discover and experience their innate connections with each other and the self-healing powers of the web of life, transforming despair and overwhelm into inspired, collaborative action.”  Joanna Macy.

The overall aim of the program is to help each participant find their own practice of Active Hope. Each time you put your unique gift into action, you strengthen yourself, inspire those around you, and take a step in support of life on Earth.

Informed by mythic journeys, modern psychology, spirituality and holistic science, the course follows a FOUR-PART strengthening journey structured around the spiral of the Work that Reconnects.

The journey begins with GRATITUDE, a nourishing quality we can all tap into, that reminds us of our allies and all that supports us.

In the second stage we HONOUR OUR PAIN for the world, acknowledging our feelings: our hurt, anger, or numbness. It allows us to be present with them, in our journey to wholeness.

In the third stage we explore new perspectives that allow us to SEE WITH NEW EYES, increasing our sense of what’s possible, catching an inspiring vision and daring to believe in new possibilities.

The final stage focuses on practical steps we can take as we prepare to GO FORTH. We discover tools and resources both within and outside of ourselves, identify learnable skills that help us harness the inspirational power of positive visions and find our personal role in working towards them.

The overall aim of the program is to help each participant find their own practice of Active Hope. Each time you put your unique gift into action, you strengthen yourself, inspire those around you, and take a step in support of life on Earth.

They are able to hold a space (even online) that feels safe enough for participants who enter as strangers to explore deep feelings and find connection with themselves, one another, and the wide world we live in.”

“Thank you! This was just what I needed in so many ways, both in terms of my ongoing inner work/spiritual journey, and it’s outward expression in the world”
