Active Hope Workshop DC/VA Area

Nov 1, 2019 @ 5:00 pm - Nov 3, 2019 @ 1:00 pm

November 1 (6 to 9 pm) and November 2, (9 to 1) 2019,

in Chapel and Commons of Mount Vernon Unitarian Church

Rev. Sarah Anders, and Beth Remmes will guide us through three ways of looking at the world, and lead us through a spiral of transformation. This spiral comes from The Work That Reconnects, developed by Joanna Macy over the last 30 years.

As for the Spiral, this will be an experiential time together, as we find our gratitude for all that is here, then our grief, fear and anger over the losses, feel our connection to this world more deeply, and become ready to go forth and transform the world. We promise it will be playful, serious, engaging and invigorating. We will be outside some of the time.

This workshop will help prepare you to restore the earth and find the strength in the challenges, and in each other. We aim to come into a place of drawing on hope, and moving into action despite uncertainty, and becoming more fully alive.

Who should come?

• Anyone currently active in the Climate Action Teams

• Everyone who at times feels overwhelmed by the challenges of facing our new reality

• Everyone who would like to learn some new ways to feel fully alive while the world changes.

• Only those who will commit to attending the full time, November 1 from 6 to 9 pm and Saturday November 2, 9 am to 1 pm.

• Everyone who will watch a one hour video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sdn-KZLJunM prior to coming (good to do in a group!) or read the first chapter of Active Hope: How to Face the Mess We’re in without Going Crazy by Joanna Macy and Chris Johnstone.

Sarah Anders, Spiritual Director of Church of the Wild

Sarah Anders holds both M.T.S. and M.Div. degrees from Wesley Theological Seminary and is ordained in the United Church of Christ. Her greatest learning, however, comes from the natural world. Further deepening from the Shalem Institute’s program, “Leading Contemplative Prayer Groups and Retreats,” Cynthia Bourgeault’s “Wisdom School,” and Joanna Macy’s “The Work that Reconnects” have enhanced her spiritual growth and leadership.

Beth Remmes is a Facilitator for The Work That Reconnects, leader of the Earth Care Team at Unity Atlanta, a member of the Unity Worldwide Ministry Earth Care Team, is on the Board of Directors for Georgia Interfaith Power and Light, and co-founder of The Four Directions Fund.

CHILD CARE CAN BE PROVIDED> please tell us the ages and names of the children who will require care, by October 24th, so we can find enough caregivers!
