Beyond Collapse: Living the Great Turning

An event every 2 weeks that begins at 11:30 am on Sunday, repeating until Apr 24, 2022

Using practices from The Work that Reconnects and associated readings, we will explore Inner and Outer paths to Connection, Resilience and Regeneration in the Great Unravelling. The inevitability of global climate chaos and subsequent political unrest, economic disruptions, and social breakdown worldwide means we, as a community, are faced with a challenge and an opportunity.  Do we make a plan and work together, or do we each fend for ourselves as best as possible as chaos descends?

We will circle 2 times a month, online, via zoom, and in-person outside, in Philo, CA –  as possible –  to explore the following themes and deeper questions which are also fundamental to the “Spiral” of Joanna Macy’s Work that Reconnects:

  • Can we deepen our gratitude as a radical response to the pervasive sense of loss and insufficiency?
  • How do we feel, share, and honor Ecological Grief/acceptance and mourning?
  • What new stories and ways of seeing feed joy and aliveness in the midst of on-going crisis?
  • What connections do we need to weave with ourselves, between ourselves and with other living beings in the midst of collapse? What new systems do we need to put in place? Who do we want to be in the face of collapse?

We will begin with the Book, Another End of the World is Possible by Pablo Servigne, Raphael Stevens and Gauthier Chapelle, (the sequel to How Everything Can Collapse), as a launching point for this conversation, integrating Joanna Macy’s Work that Reconnects practices to support our connection as we imagine our lives present and future in this region and on this planet. On-going dates can be decided by the group.

Yes, it looks bleak. But you are still alive now. You are alive with all the others, in this present moment. And because the truth is speaking in the work, it unlocks the heart. And there’s such a feeling and experience of adventure. It’s like a trumpet call to a great adventure. In all great adventures there comes a time when the little band of heroes feels totally outnumbered and bleak, … You learn to say “It looks bleak. Big deal, it looks bleak.”
