Coming Back to Life in Dark Times – a London Work That Reconnects

Feb 8 @ 9:30 am - Feb 9 @ 6:00 pm

$110 – $170

“Thank you both for stepping forward into this work, for your presence, your skills and your love. A home-coming weekend designed with care and hosted with presence, balancing that edge of what is happening now and what wants to be born.” – past participant

The Work That Reconnects is composed of teachings on deep ecology, living systems theory, and spiritual traditions and is a community building process that grows our courage, resilience, and solidarity. It helps clarify survival skills, like community building and tending to our grief, needed for navigating the chaotic times we are in, as well as the unique roles we each can play in the Great Turning. Find out more about its rich history here: www.workthatreconnects.org.

In this workshop, we will move through a weekend of ritual, storytelling, and practices held together in community. We will create a space to touch our grief for what is happening to our world, expand our perspectives, and emerge with a new sense of how we want to show up with our gifts in this unique time in history.

“The Work That Reconnects is a rich resource for those of us who want to engage more deeply with the emergency our beautiful planet is facing. It was a weekend of deep connections, grief, warmth, love and support – all building resilience for the difficult road ahead.” – Extinction Rebellion activist

The Work That Reconnects was made for these times. Times where what used to make sense is liquifying before our eyes – and we need new spaces to make sense of it. For too long, we have been looking for answers and solutions. Now is the time to inhabit the spaces of not knowing, where we find ourselves on the “knife edge of uncertainty” as root teacher Joanna Macy puts it.

Come with your questions, your grief, your confusion, come with whatever is real for you in this inbetween space. This work was developed over 50 years of working with activists and people who have lost their homes, seen destruction to their lands, and suffered through wars and conflicts and different forms of oppression. Through reconnecting with ourselves, each other, and with the magic at the source of all Life and its mystery, we discover a form of “Active Hope” which is beyond solutions, certainty or guarantee of a promised future. We rediscover our authority to act on behalf of all Life.

Phoebe and Emily trained in the Work That Reconnects with Joanna Macy in 2016 and have been offering and deepening in this work ever since. You can listen to Joanna speak about the Work That Reconnects in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=arssbFNVkIM.

*****This course meets the three-day workshop prerequisite to join the Facilitators Training through the Work That Reconnects Network if you participate in the optional day of practice offered on Monday.*****

WHO IS HOSTING?

Phoebe Tickell is a London-based deep ecologist, systems thinker, artist, and previous biological systems scientist. She is wholly committed in this moment to offer her gifts in service of the design of a new social code for a regenerative planetary civilisation. This mission led her to be trained in climate grief work and The Work That Reconnects by Joanna Macy, work in new forms of participatory governance that bring more-than-human-life into how we make decisions, and teach at Schumacher College on a range of subjects from Gaian microbiology to systems thinking. Her full-time work is in dynamic and participatory governance design, and working with movements and organisations on their self-organising systems.

Emily Coralyne is a water activist, ritualist, writer, peer counsellor, and previous environmental campaign organizer. Descending from European settlers, she was born and raised in what is now known as Central New York, originally the territory of the Onondaga Haudenosaunee People. Her studies of spiritual ecology, sociology, and community development have guided her to bear witness to the global water situation in Ecuador, the US, and Portugal, to create urban co-living communities, and to guide groups of people on the integration of their spiritual & political work. She is currently in a three-year peace work & community development program at Tamera Peace Research Center in southern Portugal.
