Doom & Bloom: Regeneration and Renewal Amidst the Climate Crisis
Sep 14 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm AEST
An event every week that begins at 6:30 pm on Tuesday, repeating until Oct 19, 2021
Are you feeling overwhelmed and disconnected?
There is a cure for that and it lies in connection – to other humans and wild nature.
It’s time to come back to life
Even with the limitations on many of us at the moment these things are available – albeit in perhaps different ways.
With cascading crisis, pandemics, natural disasters, and ecological collapse it is little wonder we feel overwhelmed and powerless at the enormity of it all.
Eco-anxiety, grief, numbness, apathy, despair – there is nothing pathological about these feelings. They are a completely understandable response to what is happening to our life systems
Inspiration can be found in the regenerative force of nature. Like lotus flowers finding their way from the mud and muck, to reach and bloom in the most beautiful way. Or compost using the old to nourish new life
This six-week online course will move you from despair and apathy to empowerment and action. It will give you tools to transform self and world amidst the churning of global crisis, urgency, emergency, loss and grief.
The content will weave together Joanna Macy’s Work That Reconnects/Deep Ecology, nature connection, mindfulness and modern psychology to move participants through despair, anxiety, grief to empowerment and alignment with the resilient, regenerative powers of life.
This course includes:
6x weekly zoom calls covering the course curriculum
1x integration call a fortnight after course officially ends
Access to an exclusive facebook group for discussion and connection
(or email pod for those not on FB)
a weekly live-streamed guided meditation via Facebook group
(+ recording sent to those not on Facebook)
weekly nature connection suggestions to take your integration offline
This is a a six week online journey to move from doom to bloom.
Session times are for Australian Eastern Time (Sydney, Canberra), and sessions will be recorded. However the power of this work is in the group processes and connection so please commit to making as many of the live sessions as possible.
Week One: Landing & Grounding
Tue, September 14 @ 06:30-08:30 PM (Sydney Canberra)
In our first session we weave our container – getting to know each other, orienting to the course and learning the core concepts for the Work That Reconnects. We will plant our roots in gratitude and wonder.
Week Two: Tools for Nervous System Resourcing
Tue, Sept 21 @ 06:30-08:30 PM
This lesson will be facilitated by climate activist and registered psychologist Felicity. We will explore practical tools from psychology to help us better manage the emotional impact of living in these turbulent times. You will learn skills to help regulate your nervous system and build emotional resources.
Week Three: Traversing Emotional Terrain
Tue, Sept 28 @ 06:30-08:30 PM
A deep ecological approach to honouring pain, falling apart. Here too practices for nervous system regulation will be shared. We will honour whatever flavour of emotional turmoil we experience for the world. We will practice processing, digesting and metabolising our grief, both personal and collective. We will honour the losses and hold space for uncomfortable feelings in order to move through them so that they reveal their other side – a deep love for the world, a realisation of the preciousness of existence. No mud, no lotus.
Week Four: Compassion for Self and World
Tue, Oct 5 @ 06:30-08:30 PM PM
Felicity will share with us the results of her 20 year search for a key ingredient to positively change the world. You will learn about why developing self-compassion will not only help you to manage better emotionally but helps us collectively. You will also leave with tools to help boost your self-compassion immediately.
Week Five: Connecting with a Deeper Strength
Tue, Oct 12 @ 06:30-08:30 PM
In this workshop we explore strength, recovery and resilience through community and the work that reconnects part of the spiral process, ‘Seeing with New/Ancient Eyes’ where we gain new perspectives through widening our circle of identification, placing ourselves in deep time and opening to the strength of the earth.
Week Six: Staying with the Trouble and Offering Our Gifts
Tue, Oct 19 @ 06:30-08:30 PM
Here we tap into our personal power and fully show up in the world with what we have to give. This is the stage on the Work That Reconnects spiral process called ‘Going Forth’. We are here for it all, anchoring to our purpose and ‘active hope’.
Tue, November 2 @ 06:30-08:30 PM
