A free video-based online course that guides participants on a seven-week transformative journey to nourish and strengthen their capacity, intention and enthusiasm to act for positive change. At its core are a series of seven practices that can be carried out as personal reflections, in conversation with someone else, or as small group activities. The course is inspired by and follows the spiral of the Work That Reconnects, while also drawing upon evidence-based insights from health psychology, perspectives from Gaia Theory and systems thinking, decolonisation, and narrative practice. It is presented by Active Hope co-author Chris Johnstone, together with contributions from Joanna Macy and a panel of guests from a range of countries and contexts.
As the course is recorded, it can be started at any time, and while it is presented as a seven-week course, participants are welcome to follow it at their own pace.
While this course can be followed as a solo journey, it can work better in company, as the practices work particularly well as partnered conversations. Experienced or aspiring Work That Reconnects facilitators are encouraged to use this course outline and materials as a resource for guiding group-based Active Hope journeys, and some facilitators are already doing this, with an eight webinar/meeting structure that has a section and practice from the course between each webinar/meeting.
The course is offered free of charge, thanks to an initial grant from the Emergence Foundation. We have adopted a ‘pay-it-forward’ model, where we’re asking for donations to help us keep this course available for free.
