Gone? Facing an Uncertain Future, Together

Oct 12, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 12:30 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 10:00 am on Saturday, repeating until Dec 14, 2019

$120 – $420

Things are changing. And they’re changing rapidly.

The harsh realities of climate change are reaching more of us, more frequently. Disruptions are happening much faster and more violently than previously anticipated. Indeed, temperatures are rising so quickly, and ice is melting so fast, that we seem to be “breaking” all our climate models.

The underlying current running beneath these observations is intense and sobering.

These findings suggest that it is highly likely that within the span of your lifetime you will experience firsthand a rapidly escalating and disruptive climate situation derailing the homeostatic Eden-like conditions that have made human civilization possible on this planet.

The changes set in motion have the potential to invoke systemic collapse.

This sounds dramatic, because it is.
It’s wholly unthinkable.
And yet, it is now entirely possible.

If you’re reading this now—please know, I see you.
I hear you.
And you’re not alone.

You might be feeling things: anxiety, doubt, confusion, despair, emptiness, rage, terror, mania.
You might feel like running away, numbing out, hiding, or frantically taking on too much.
You might feel wholly disconnected and dissociated from what is going on.
You might feel nothing at all.

Really, no response is off the mark.

Because this is a wholly different kind of terrain we are collectively navigating here.

– – –

Right now, as you confront tremendous loss, escalating instability, immense tragedy, and massive uncertainty…

You are passionate about being the change you wish to see in the world—but perhaps it often feels like you fall short.

You really want to do more, serve more, help more—but find your capacity to do so just doesn’t appear to be enough.

You are working to root into the truth of who you are + who it is you wish to be—but the more you learn, the more pain you uncover, the more you seem to mistrust any empty promise of lasting repair.

You are committed to showing up and living into all that remains unknown—but that doesn’t negate the fact that you’re still confused, angry, afraid, and overwhelmed.

GONE? FACING AN UNCERTAIN FUTURE, TOGETHER

beta version
SEPTEMBER 28th — DECEMBER 14th, 2019

WHAT IS IT?

Gone? is a twelve-week virtual learning community, support space, and facilitated framework aimed at engaging our collective awareness, agency, resilience, and responsiveness in the wake of escalating ecocide and climate collapse.

Gone? is an opportunity to both understand how our rapidly changing world lands in the nuances of the body and to engage with the wild intelligences of the earth and the more-than-human world.

Gone? is a chance to connect with, receive the company of, and be witnessed by other folks with a mutual concern for the planet and a shared commitment to deep presence through these precarious times.

Gone? taps into somatic awareness, critical inquiry, and radical togetherness in devotion of an alternate regenerative narrative beyond the violent dysfunctions of business-as-usual.

This program is an invitation to humbly
come together in community to ask—

How do we wish to live into this uncertain future, together?

PROGRAM LOGISTICS

TIME AND SPACE
We will gather for two-and-a-half-hour long ZOOM video conference calls on Saturdays at 10am North American Pacific/1pm Eastern/5pm Greenwich Mean Time. Because this is our entry point of connection for this program, live participation on these calls is highly encouraged. If you can’t make it live, these calls will be recorded.

Our first gathering lands on Saturday, September 28th. Our last gathering is on Saturday, December 14th. The program runs for a length of twelve calendar weeks. We begin on the New Moon Super Moon after the Autumn Equinox and end on a Waning Gibbous just before the Winter Solstice.

DURING OUR CALLS
After an intentional centering and calling together of our energies to open the space (~5 minutes), we will focus on that week’s theme and practical course material (~40 minutes). Then we will have a short break (5 minutes), followed by an interactive group practice (~35 minutes) to bridge individual and collective, theory and praxis, mind and body. We will also have some time designated to dialogue, which will be our time as a community to give voice to that which feels most present and prescient (~30 minutes). We will close with rhythm, sound, and movement (~5 minutes).

OUTSIDE OF OUR CALLS
This is an online offering, but I don’t want this to mean that we spend even more time on the computer, on our phones, on social media. I see this as an entry point into connection that would be otherwise inaccessible without the internet. I also hope that this experience might serve as an invitation into honest assessment of the relationship we each have with these technologies. For a number of reasons, there will be no online forum or Facebook group for this program. Instead, we will focus our online engagement to 12 weekly two-hour ZOOM video conference calls.

HOMEWORK
I will be sending out a weekly digest email with some experiential practices, but engaging with those emails or the aforementioned practices aren’t necessary to benefit from this space.

There will be no required assignments per se, only resources shared for you to engage with as you’d like. I don’t want to bombard you with lots of information. This doesn’t mean the space won’t be confronting, but I’ve done my best to not make it super demanding.

Your primary “homework assignment” during this program is to spend more unstructured time outside, paying attention (ideally, at least 1 hour per day).
