Once You Know Bonus Event with Susanne Moser

Dec 4 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm EST

$15 – $35

The Work That Reconnects Network has teamed up with Pulp Films and Video Project to support the international release of Once You Know, an award-winning film by Emmanuel Cappellin in collaboration with Anne-Marie Sangla. Inspired by the Work That Reconnects, Extinction Rebellion and Collapsology, this film is a deeply personal exploration of coming to terms with crisis, collapse and active hope in these troubling times.

As we complete our initial launch that included 21 events in 9 countries, facilitated by our WTR Network Facilitator Members, we’re excited to announce this special BONUS event with Susanne Moser, who is one of the key climate change activists and experts featured in the film.

During this event we’ll move through the spiral of the WTR as we reflect on and process through some of the feelings that this film has stirred in us and connect with ways that we can continue our contributions to the Great Turning. We’ll also have some special time for Q/A and discussion with Susanne.

Join us on Saturday, December 4th
12pm-2pm EST (UTC-5)

Susanne C. Moser (she/her) is a geographer (Ph.D. 1997, Clark University) who works in the US and internationally as an independent scholar and consultant from a base in western Massachusetts, the unceded ancestral homeland of the Nipmuc and Pocumtuc. Her work focuses on adaptation to climate change, science-policy interactions, climate change communication, and psycho-social resilience in the face of the traumatic and transformative challenges associated with climate change. She has served on scientific advisory boards for Future Earth, the International Science Council, the US National Research Council and contributed to IPCC and US national climate assessments.

She is featured in “Once you Know” a film by French filmmaker Emmanuel Cappellin, a serendipity facilitated by Emmanuel’s and Susi’s mutual friend, Joanna Macy. Susi had been previously introduced to the Work that Reconnects in 1999. She was trained by Joanna and Fran Macy as a facilitator of the WTR in 2003, and has worked to find ways to include it in her professional life whenever no one was looking.

About the Film…

Once You Know, an award-winning film by Emmanuel Cappellin in collaboration with Anne-Marie Sangla. From Pulp Films and Video Project.

Once You Know asks the disturbing questions: Are there better ways of collapsing than others? What is meaningful work on the way down? Director Emmanuel Cappellin is obsessed with how to best respond personally and collectively.

His quest leads him around the world to meet five of the world’s leading climate scientists and energy experts. They share with him the truth, chaos, and hope in their work. They allow him to challenge everything he took for granted – from growth-based democracies to personal freedoms. More information…

“A triumph. With rare aesthetic taste, it delivers the facts about our accelerating climate chaos with an almost tender respect for those of us confronting the crisis. Unforgettable portraits of climate leaders in Bangladesh, France, and the US, help make our own choices clear. They leave me feeling inspired to lead a life that is relevant to this global movement.”

— Joanna Macy, featured in A Wild Love for the World: Joanna Macy and the Work of Our Time

“Extraordinary and necessary film. A poetic journey into the teeth of collapse that leaves us with one question: how will I comport myself during this time?”

— Dahr Jamail, author of The End of Ice: Bearing Witness and Finding Meaning in the path of Climate Disruption

“A beautiful, heart-breaking, and ultimately affirming journey into the grim future we all face. Once You Know confronts our global trajectory of ecological and civilizational collapse and doesn’t flinch or reach for false hope, but helps find a way to live with a truth we cannot unsee.”

— Roy Scranton, Author of Total Mobilization: World War II and American Literature
