In 2018, as part of the Peace Agreement with the FARC-guerrilla, a Truth Commission is installed in Colombia with a three year mandate, that can be summarized in three ethical challenges: 1) clarification of the truth, 2) recognition of the victims and of individual and collective responsibilities, and 3) promotion of coexistence and the Good Living (Buen Vivir).
That same year we launch the initiative “Re-Connecting: Laboratories of Truth and Reconciliation in the womb of Mother Earth”, that is going to accompany the Truth Commission in it’s almost impossible task. If we are to work on Truth and Reconciliation, the truth of our deep connection with the Earth should be acknowledged and honored. The earth is a victim of this war, as are the more than seven million Colombians forcibly displaced from their lands. We believe that part of the healing of the wounded and divided Colombian people will be found in the reconnection with living nature. As far as we know, this is the first time that WTR is being applied and sponsored on an official, institutional level.
By now, may 2020, almost 200 people have participated in our laboratories, with many benefits for the Truth Commission. In the words of the President of the Truth Commission, Francisco de Roux: “I am convinced that RECONECTANDO’s contribution to the process of the Truth Commission has been and continues to be very important. We’ve already seen the benefits of their integral approach of the Truth, of shared suffering and hope of the Earth and of human beings. They succeeded in bringing together people from all sides of the conflict and of all ethnicities and cultures in precious nature reserves in the regions. RE-CONECTANDO has to be part of those who receive the legacy of the Truth Commission and continue to work for non-repetition of the violence and reconciliation between the Colombian people and the land.”
We’ve also formed 24 “young sprouts” of Reconectando, with several ex-combatants of all sides, (guerrilla, paramilitary), 3 indigenous leaders, 3 afrocolombian community leaders, artists, students, elders…who received a profound training and initiation in january this year. They will start seeding WTR with “Colombian flavour” as soon as we can gather in the womb of Mother Earth again.
