World As Lover, World As Self: 4-Week Book Study
Feb 3 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm EST
Drawing on Joanna Macy’s life-long study of Buddhism and systems theory, the newly-updated World As Lover, World As Self, discusses the crises of our time and gives us the tools to meet today’s challenges. The Work That Reconnects workshop scheduled for February is based on Macy’s concept of “The Great Turning,” a name for the essential adventure of our time: the shift from the Industrial Growth Society to a life-sustaining civilization.
During this four week book study, we will discuss quotes and passages that stand out to participants and work with interactive practices and meditations that complement the four sections of the book: Finding our Bearings, Food for the Mind, Food for the Heart, and Food for the Journey. These practices, from The Work that Reconnects workshop, are designed to help us unlock our stuck emotions and rediscover our interconnectedness with the world and with each other.
This online study is open to everyone interested in discovering and deepening a relationship to the environment through a Buddhist lens. A Zoom link will be provided upon registration.
The book study is led by Beth Remmes who is a Facilitator for the Work That Reconnects, a member of the Unity Worldwide Ministry Earth Care Team, is on the Board of Directors for Georgia Interfaith Power and Light, and is a co-founder of The Four Directions Fund.
Joanna Macy PhD, is a scholar of Buddhism, general systems theory, and deep ecology. The author of more than twelve books, she is the root teacher of the Work That Reconnects. Her work addresses psychological and spiritual issues, the cultivation of ecological awareness, and the resonance between Buddhist thought and contemporary science.
