A visual depiction of the story of the Elm Dance, including the recorded music. Juris Kulakovs and Ieva Akuratere were in the Latvian band Pērkons, which recorded Ka Man Klajas. Although the original 1989 version is best known, the song has also been recorded by other artists. For example Venita Robertson’s CD was distributed via Timberhead Music. More recently, Carolyn McDade recorded a choral version – see www.carolynmcdademusic.com/widening_embrace/embrace.html. Two people who were instrumental in the Elm Dance story but who are not pictured in the “Visual Context” are Joanna Macy’s friend Hannalore who shared the dance with Joanna, and Harasch, who informed Joanna and Fran why Novozybkov became so contaminated from the Chernobyl accident.
