The Mara Activity: Meeting Our Other

This adaptation of the Mara Activity, from the Work That Reconnects, depicts an interaction with the Other, that voice within us that holds us back from reaching our goals, stepping into our power, and realizing our dreams. Our Other has been with us a long time; it knows us well, our habits, failings, fears, and strengths. This personal duality, Self and Other, holds potential for creativity and resiliency, as well as for separation and violence. Possibly originating as a defense strategy, providing methods and means for navigating youth, it takes on a life of its own and can become a barrier to taking risks that bring about our full creative expression. Establishing a dialogue with our Other is the first step in reducing its limiting influence, tapping its creativity, and claiming our power.
