Cindy Barnes

I'm passionate about community and connection with all beings. I\'ve held The Work That Reconnects and The Council of All Beings for my local community, for organisations large and small, and for activist groups. In my day job, I provide counselling, psychotherapy and groups for highly sensitive people (people with sensory processing sensitivity). I also work as an organisational consultant as a facilitator and coach in conflict resolution.

I'm a member of the Climate Psychology Alliance and provide free therapeutic support through them for people experiencing eco-distress.

I trained in WTR with Chris Johnstone in 2008 and then with Joanna Macy on a 7 day intensive at Findhorn in 2009. I helped Chris edit and publish The Great Turning Times for a number of years. I've founded a solar CIC, my local Transition Town, a wildlife charity and am a trustee of a national rewilding charity Heal and a national eco-choir. I trained as an End of Life Doula, and a shamanic practitioner. Malidoma Patrice Some was a key mentor. Prior to my therapy career I spent 30 years in senior business positions.

Why I am called to facilitate the Work

Disconnection from nature is disconnection from ourselves and this is the biggest threat to our planet. I'm drawn to this work because it is The Work of our time.

How I see the Work serving the Great Turning

Connecting with ourselves, others and the natural world helps us become more compassionate. It builds our empathy and perspective taking for the 'other' and helps us become more tolerant and inclusive. It also reduces conflict as we begin to understand all perspectives. Ultimately it builds love and respect for all beings.
