I have throughout my life ( and career) looked to broaden my horizons, understand the bigger picture, the systems we are part of and the stories we live by. From a young age I sensed a ‘wrongness’ in the world, a feeling that something more beautiful, more just, more flourishing lay hidden behind the deep walls of our consensus reality. Occasionally I caught glimpses of this world, brief illuminations of a new story through the cracks of my comfortable western life. These portals to a ‘new story of people’ became manifest in the the amazing people, places and life lessons I have been privileged to experience: these include:
Learning gratitude and humility with street homeless people in Brighton
Experiencing the power of communities-of-practice with families regenerating deprived estates in the North East.
Hearing the story of the Shambahala warrior with by the fire-side with Satish Kumar
Lesson from my amazing son... his autism showing me how to truly life in the moment.
All these experiences have developed a drive and passion to build the this new story in the shell of the old. If we are to create the world we want we need to change our story. This enthusiasm for systemic change in the world has influenced my professional career, from the causes I have chosen to support to the values-based leadership approaches delivered to bring about lasting change.
