I am a Permaculture Designer, systems thinker, experienced group facilitator, counsellor, a teacher of Sociocracy and run a consultancy called Marvellous Meetings. marvellousmeetings.co.uk. My spiritual practice is grounded in “The Old Ways” of the islands I live in, (sometimes known as Albion). We follow the Wheel of the Year with the celebration of the Solstices and Equinoxes and the Cross Quarter holidays of Imbolc, Beltane, Lughnasadh and Samhian. I am also a practitioner of Theravada Bhuddhism. I am a member of the WTR Network Anti-Oppression Resouce Group which meets regularly to revise exercises and practices in WTR that may unwittingly be perpetuating patterns of harm. My greatest joy is being an engaged mother, mother-in-law and grandmother.
Why I am called to facilitate the Work
I am a Permaculture Designer, systems thinker, experienced group facilitator, counsellor, a teacher of Sociocracy and run a consultancy called Marvellous Meetings. marvellousmeetings.co.uk. My spiritual practice is grounded in “The Old Ways” of the islands I live in, (sometimes known as Albion). My greatest joy is being an engaged mother, mother-in-law and grandmother.
When teaching Permaculture Design in the 1990’s I came across “Despair and Personal Power in the Nuclear Age” by Joanna Macy. I had seen that people engaged in the world changing work of Permaculture Design were hampered by their despair. I used the practices in the book, changing the focus from nuclear to environmental despair, to facilitate participants on the trainings to process their feelings and move on to action. When Molly and Joanna published “Coming Back to Life” in 1998 this enabled me to expand and develop this work and firmly root it in Permaculture Design education in the UK. I am continually called to facilitate The Work that Reconnects because of the benefit it brings to those people and organisations seeking to interrupt the destructive patterns of our current dominant cultures. Since the 1990s I have facilitated many TWR workshops in Scotland, England and Spain.
How I see the Work serving the Great Turning
What I most appreciate about the Work that Reconnects is that it offers a clear and accessible structure which, being grounded in gratitude practices, reminds people of their connection to the whole of life, supports them in experiencing their pain for the world and facilitates the opportunity to arrive at new ways of seeing the world. Motivation, energy and creative enthusiasm for next steps result. WtR workshops create safe spaces for people to process what is often ignored or deemed unworthy of needing attention by those identifying as earth activists and world changers. Engaging with TWR also re-ignites our often sidelined need for collective ritual. The resilience gained enables people to refresh their engagement with the Great Unravelling and the Great Turning.
Audiences I work with
I have mainly worked with students of Permaculture Design, social activists, world changers, writers, artists and CEOs of NGOs and have delivered trainings to local government, community groups and political action groups. I have recently begun to offer some WTR practices, Deep Time work in particular, to my goddess daughter, who is on the autistic spectrum, with a view to expanding this to working with other neuro-diverse young people.
