Facilitator text: ' Joy Foley provides a safe holding space for people to reconnect with self, other and all of nature at Peace Valley - Australian Bush Retreat'. She practices deep listening, and uses the tools of The Work that Reconnects to enrichen the direct embodied experience of living in nature.'
Profile text: 'Joy Foley is a passionate global citizen and nature lover. She is a mother, gardener and one time nurse! An everyday person doing everyday things. Her life experience includes creating organic gardens, off grid living, nature connection, yoga and mediation. She has lived in four countries, always on the land. In Germany she assisted in initiating a food cooperative and alternative community and lived plastic free for one year. She speaks English, German and a little Italian. The Work that Reconnects has been an integral part of her personal 'Turning' from stuck consumer into active eco aware earth citizen working for a positive and abundant future for all. Joanna's books, especially 'Active Hope' have been inspirational. She took part in 'Applied Ecovillage Living' at Findhorn, Scotland and the Facilitator training for the Pachamama Alliance in Germany. Now she provides a safe space to reconnect to self, other and nature at 'Peace Valley - Australian Bush Retreat' south of Brisbane. She uses embodied 'learning by doing' and the tools of 'The Work that Reconnects' to enrichen visitors experience. The project runs on a gift economy basis.
Audiences I work with
All ages are welcome, however the original vision saw young adults being the main target; the generation which is aware of the disconnect, has finished it's schooling and doesn't wish to join the old system however is unsure of next steps. The disconnect which is an integral part of their lives through the intense use of technology leaves them without a real nature connection. I offer the space at Peace Valley as a way to overcome this.
Experience facilitating other events & workshops
What year did you begin facilitating the Work That Reconnects?
I am relatively new to facilitation although I have rich people skills from long service as a nurse and caring for the elderly. This current project has grown out of a personal journey of transformation which you can read about here: https://www.treesisters.org/2017-10-04-18-28-09/blog/24-nature-connection/588-the-road-to-peace-valley
