Deep Ecology Evening Workshop with John Seed and Erika Aligno
October 7, 2026 @ 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm PDT
Event Overview
Deep Ecology invites us to move into ecological identity. not as separate but as participants within the living earth together.
This is a rare opportunity to work with lifetime environmental activist and elder John Seed, as he’ll be zooming in remotely from Australia. John Seed is the father of the Australian Deep Ecology movement, the founder of the Rainforest Information Centre, and has dedicated his life to the protection of rainforests and their biodiversity since 1979. He no longer travels to facilitate workshops but will be zooming in to co-facilitate remotely with the in-person facilitation team.
This powerful evening will be facilitated in person by Erika Aligno and supported by Rogue Valley local facilitators and organizers Kat Steele, Julie Norman and WTR Network Co-Director, Jo delAmor.
Join us for an experiential evening of connection. A place to remember the interconnectedness of all life and to discover our ecological identity. Through honouring our gratitudes and our pain for the world together we go forth with a renewed sense of empowerment to face the challenges of the world today. It’s an invitation to gather, inquire, reconnect and perhaps encounter some of the questions that have been waiting for you.
For more than forty years John worked with Joanna Macy exploring important questions and co creating Deep Ecology practices.
- What if lasting environmental action doesn’t begin with more information?
- What if it begins with remembering that the rivers, forests, animals and mountains are not outside of us, but part of who we are?
Deep Ecology gives us.
More presence.
More connection.
A renewed sense of purpose.
A different way of meeting the world around us.
This event is a benefit for rainforest conservation. All proceeds go to the protection of the incomparable Los Cedros Biological Reserve in western Ecuador https://chuffed.org/project/

About Erika Aligno

I am a veteran of community legal centres, where I advocated as a lawyer for social justice, supporting people navigating systems not built for them. Over time, I have expanded my energy toward environmental justice. My work with the NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment, and Water and my studies in Environmental Management at the University of NSW led me to Deep Ecology, and in 2023 I began working closely with John Seed, the ‘Australian Father’ of Deep Ecology.
I now serve as a Director of the Institute for Deep Ecology, contributing to the organisation’s mission to advance ecological consciousness, community practice, and transformative education. As a facilitator, I have led more than 20+ Deep Ecology workshops in Sydney, Hobart, Perth, Zaragoza (Spain), and the USA, supporting participants to reconnect with Earth, each other, and our ecological identity.
