Care Currents: In-Person WTR Spiral in Cairo

You’re invited to attend Care Currents!

A Parent centered 1 day workshop following the expanded spiral of the Work that Reconnects.

You don’t have to bring your children, in fact, you don’t have to be a parent! You can bring children from your community, and you can come as the child of parents. You can be a single parent, you can be someone who was raised by a single parent, too. 

The stages of the expanded spiral as developed by Mutima Imani (upon Joanna Macy’s request) are:

1. Gratitude,
2. Self Awareness,
3. Social Location and Systems of Oppression,
4. Honoring our Pain for the World,
5. Seeing with New/Ancient Eyes,
6. Liberation,
7. Going Forth

Why parent-centered? 

1. Parenting is an act of care, I want to focus on the care we have received, the care that we wished we received and the care we offer and wish we could offer. We’ll be taking care through the spiral of the Work that Reconnects. I particularly want to explore the grief we might hold around care.

2. There are a lot of spaces held that imply/require that children aren’t present. This limits accessibility for parents, especially for primary single parents like myself. And so, children are welcomed.

What does “taking care through the spiral” mean? 

This is something that I like doing. I have taken capitalism through the spiral, facism through the spiral, I have taken collapse through the spiral and now, we’re going to be taking care through the (expanded) spiral of the Work that Reconnects. We’ll be looking at and reflecting on care through the different stages of the spiral.

About me and How I came to the Work that Reconnects: 

I’m a single parent of two children and I have been studying and facilitating the Work that Reconnects since 2023. I am part of the facilitator team at Spiral Journey where a facilitator development program is offered.

I’m also part of the Ecoversities Alliance, the partner council bringing the Next Economies Forum to Cairo in 2027 and a holder of an MA in Economics in International Development. I found the Work that Reconnects through Ecoversities, where I was part of the hosting team of the global gathering held in Egypt in 2022.

I’m currently volunteering in the Work that Reconnects Network and studying to become a grief facilitator and I’m part of the Traditional Studies Program offered by Dar Al Rayyan (graduating in 2027) and I’m doing a graduate diploma in Ecosocial Design at Gaia U.

I’m a facilitator of the expanded spiral of the Work that Reconnects, a writer and a dreamer. I’m currently working on Imagination for Liberation as a body of work to bring into being the worlds we want to be part of.
