Event Overview

This program offers processes and tools to remind us of the deep connection we have as human beings with nature, our fellow human beings, and ourselves. Anyone facing the facts today regarding threatened ecosystems, crumbling democracies, and social inequality may be overcome by feelings of despondency, guilt, or despair.

Every season, we gather for a day with like-minded individuals at a beautiful natural location. Here, we find the peace and space to recharge, acknowledge our concerns, and develop new perspectives. Beforehand, we work with the Spiral proces form Joanna Macy and ‘The Work That Reconnects’; a recognized methodology used worldwide by peace, justice, and environmental movements.

This workshop is based in the body of work known as the Work That Reconnects. You can learn more about the Work That Reconnects at www.workthatreconnects.org and in the book Coming Back to Life by Joanna Macy and Molly Brown brought to you here by May van Waes and Eva Maria Schneijderberg.

This program offers processes and tools to remind us of the deep connection we have as human beings with nature, our fellow human beings, and ourselves. Anyone facing the facts today regarding threatened ecosystems, crumbling democracies, and social inequality may be struck by feelings of despondency, guilt, or despair. Every season, we gather for a day with like-minded individuals at a beautiful natural location. Here, we find the peace and space to recharge, acknowledge our concerns, and develop new perspectives. To achieve this, we work with tools from both ‘Nonviolent Communication’ and ‘The Work That Reconnects’; a recognized methodology used worldwide for the benefit of peace, justice, and environmental movements. Content Every season, we collectively go through a guided ‘spiral’ in which we progress through various steps at an experiential level to achieve greater connection. This process, developed by ecophilosopher, systems expert, and Bouddhist Joanna Macy, consists of:

  • Grounding in gratitude;
  • Honoring the pain;
  • Looking with new (or age-old) eyes;
  • Going forth.

Methods used include guided meditations, visualizations, systemic exercises, theoretical background, creative methods, and rituals. Additionally, we practice using tools from Nonviolent Communication to engage in conversation with others based on dialogue rather than debate. This allows you to stand up for what is important to you without losing sight of the connection with the other person. Besides contributing to connection with others, the process of Nonviolent Communication also contributes to connection with yourself and the development of a strong inner compass.

This program is for you if:

  • You notice that you avoid uncomfortable feelings regarding the state of the world and are looking for tools on how to relate to them.
  • You have a need to share and explore these feelings with others.
  • You want to connect with the living earth and the seasons and what connection with this natural cycle can bring you.
  • You want to try out processes to live more from a place of connection and incorporate them into your daily life.
  • You want to learn to shift perspectives and practice having difficult conversations.

After this program, you will have:

  • a group of people and concrete tools to fall back on when developments in the world overwhelm you.
  • tools on how to live more from connection, hope, and trust.
  • practices on how to engage in difficult conversations from a place of honesty and connection.
  • ways to find peace and trust in nature. opportunities and the willpower to commit to your unique contribution to ‘the great turning’, that is to say: a life-sustaining society.

============== “The Work That Connects helps people discover and experience their innate connection with one another and the self-healing power of the web of life, transforming despair and overwhelm into inspired, collective action.” Joanna Macy ==============

For whom

Anyone who feels the need to share, in a safe setting, how the challenges of these times affect you and what you can contribute to this. This program is suitable for everyone, regardless of age, education, political preference, or any other identity aspect. During the program, we will not engage in substantive opinions. The emphasis will primarily be on experiencing, practicing, and sharing. Experience or prior knowledge of the methodologies is not required. It may be helpful to read the book *Active Hope* by Joanna Macy beforehand. There is room in the program to also bring in everyone’s personal expertise and/or background.

  1. Gronden in dankbaarheid;
  2. Eren van de pijn;
  3. Kijken met nieuwe (of aloude) ogen;

==============

Eva en May zijn beiden opgeleid facilitator in The Work That Reconnects.
