January 24, 2026 – What would the world look like if we all got to work imagining—and then building—a world we were deeply in love with? What would our activism in the Great Turning look like if we truly believed we could inhabit the future we actually long for? Come see for yourself as we travel through time with Rob Hopkins, self-described Time Traveller and author of How to Fall In Love With The Future: A Time Traveller’s Guide to Changing the World.
In this webinar, hosted by Kathleen Rude, Rob will invite us into an experience of Deep Time that can help us create actual memories of the future where we get things right. While this may sound like a flight of fancy, these travels into the future nourish our capacity to imagine, innovate and engage in actions that can usher in the Great Turning. Rob believes that “We must be able to envision a future we actually want so that we can muster the will to do what needs to be done in order to make that vision a reality to the degree that we can’t imagine doing anything else.”
Rob will not only take us on a journey into the future, he will teach us how to create our own time machines that provide experiences where people can say, “when I was in the future.” We will learn about the power of imagination and why it is essential for our survival and for our thriving.
Rob Hopkins is the co-founder of Transition Network and of Transition Town Totnes, and author of several books including The Transition Handbook and most recently, How to Fall in Love with the Future. He is an Ashoka Fellow, has spoken at TED Global and at several TEDx events, and appears in the French film phenomenon Demain. He holds a PhD from the University of Plymouth as well as 2 Honoris Causas, and hosted 100 episodes of his podcast From What If to What Next. In November 2022 he was made an Honorary Citizen of Liège in Belgium. His collaborative music project with artist Mr Kit, Field Recordings from the Future is evolving into a touring live show. In his spare time, he draws and makes drypoint etchings. Rob offers a monthly newsletter, the Time Traveller’s Gazette, which is available on robhopkins.net.
Kathleen Rude is a longtime Work That Reconnects facilitator and mentor, an author and a healer. She is a Network Weaver and was mentored by Joanna Macy. To help people engage with the Spiral outside of workshops, she created a Guided Self-Practice of the WTR, a 42-minute interactive audio recording. Kathleen fell in love with the natural world as a young child and found her voice for environmental activism at age 10. With degrees in wildlife ecology and environmental policy, Kathleen worked as an environmental writer for 15 years. Her apprenticeships with North American indigenous elders inspire her healing practice and ceremonial work. Her website is GaiaWisdom.org.

And finally, this is the note that Rob has included in the signature line in his email. It’s given us something to consider. “I won’t be offended if you don’t reply with a thank you email! The simplest email produces 4 grams of carbon dioxide. If every email user avoided sending just one unnecessary email per day, we’d reduce the equivalent emissions produced by 2,939 direct return flights from London Heathrow to Berlin.”
