Deep Ecology & Poetry: a workshop based on Joanna Macy’s Work That Reconnects & inspired by Wendell Berry
October 18, 2026 @ 2:30 pm - 5:00 pm PDT
Event Overview
Invest in the millennium. Plant sequoias. Say that your main crop is the forest that you did not plant, that you will not live to harvest…Put your faith in the two inches of humus that will build under the trees every thousand years….Practice resurrection. ~ Wendell Berry
Another wise elder has entered the realm of the ancestors. Wendell Berry, along with Joanna Macy, awakened within me an awareness of my deep interconnection with this living planet and a sense of sacred awe which has often served as a source of strength and courage for me in the midst of these trying times.
Join us for a WTR Spiral facilitated by Pam Wood and Hannah Skutt, Sunday, October 18 from 1:30-4pm focused on the theme of deep ecology. In honor of Wendell Berry, we will also delve into deep ecology-themed poetry! This is a mini retreat-like experience, so please plan to come for the entire meeting. This workshop is free, but donations are requested and will be gifted this month to Columbia Riverkeepers, an amazing organization that partners with Tribes and unites people living on and around the Columbia River to advocate for environmental and climate justice, using legal advocacy, community organizing and educational programs.
Register by emailing me at pamarama2@yahoo.com. Details, parking info, and what to bring will be sent to all registrants closer to the date.Invite your friends!
Our Real Work
It may be that when we no longer know what to do
We have come to our real work,
And that when we no longer know which way to go
We have come to our real journey.
The mind that is not baffled is not employed.
The impeded stream is the one that sings.
~ Wendell Berry
