Imagination for Liberation
January 28, 2026 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm EET
Event Overview
A 6 week Work that Reconnects workshop designed to assist us in imagining our way towards liberation. The future is waiting for us to imagine it into being, rehearsing futures allows us to troubleshoot for blocks that may present themselves, for ways we might stop ourselves, too!
Does this sound like you?
- Maybe you’re one of us? Did you reimagine a dozen other endings for the movie you just watched?
- Maybe you’re a parent who’s visualized their dream vacation with the kids until it actually happened (or you realized it wasn’t actually your dream and planned something even better!)
- You could be a facilitator, a healer, and regardless of the hats you wear, you’re a dreamer who’s just tired of having to convince everyone that there’s room for hope in this world…
So you just unplugged and stopped the dreaming altogether.
Over 6 weeks, we’ll meet for two hours every week, connect, reflect and integrate on a facilitated community chat and refer to the guidebook for support. We will:
- Define what we want to change about our present, so that we move past that state of bleh
- Go back in time and find pockets of support in our past, so that we heal from the hyper-individuality of modernity and prime our imagination to receive a life beyond extraction
- Peek behind the veil of time to dream up different futures so that we can rehearse and troubleshoot until we reach the right fit future
🌿 Imagination for Liberation follows the journey along the expanded Work that Reconnects Spiral, as developed by Joanna Macy and expanded by Mutima Imani to help us find our way beyond despair in what are otherwise desperate times. Imagination for Liberation allows us to ground in our realities first, before we shift the focus to liberation and going forth. 🌿

More about me:
I spend my time roaming the fault lines of Cairo. Post-revolution and mid-collapse, my work explores what it means to belong, and at times completely refusing to, in a place that demands that I become convenient and civilized when all I want to be is cultured.
As I map the geographies of single motherhood: the labyrinth of repair and care as resistance, my work helps me navigate the freeze of capitalism while slowly weaving communities of care to nourish us through times of collapse.
Among the teachers (and books) that have inspired me are David Fleming and the book Surviving the Future, Joanna Macy, Kurt Vonnegut’s short play 2BOR02B and Starhawk’s The Fifth Sacred Thing.
